Artist Statement

Working on this project, I utilized the technique of Russian miniature painting on lacquer box as the Russian decorative painted egg tradition.  The theme and imagery are inspired by my experience during the 2014 artist residency in Venice, Italy.  Traditional miniature oil painting and Rococo ornamentation echo the ornate facades of Venetian Grand Canal.  This project was particularly interesting for me because it presented an opportunity to reconnect with my Russian art and craft research practice.
