Artist Statement
The egg that I decorated was not in any way inspired, nor reflective, of my activities as a professional artist. Rather, I was thinking of what I might have liked to have received as a child.
I have always had a fondness for the colorful beauty of birds eggs.
When I was a pre-teen, I received from a friend a gift of a chocolate Easter egg that was about 8" in length [same size as his Art 360 artwork]. It had no decorative features, but I was so impressed with its size that I was reluctant to break it open and eat it. I think I kept it forever, and yet now I don't even remember what happened to it.
In my youth, I put together a pretty large collection of eggs of different birds (one egg only per species). At the time we head to adhere to strict rules of when, and if, we could remove an egg from a nest. We gently blew out the insides - yolk and white - to prevent rot. I believe that my sister in England still holds the collection.
