Artist Statement
Since most of the artwork I create is done on either canvas or panel, I really enjoyed the challenge of experimenting with this unusual surface, as well as trying out some new techniques and materials. For this piece, I started with a layer of silver foil, then added bits of silver glitter. The twisted wing imagery began as an ink drawing, which I photographed then digitally manipulated. I printed the images with an ink jet printer, then covered that surface with pouring medium. Once the pouring medium was dry, I used water to remove the paper and applied the resulting transparent gels to the surface of the egg. After completing that layer, I used acrylic paint to incorporate facial features into some of the feather shapes. There is also a female companion egg, but she was not able to join Marko Pollo on his adventures.
